Since its inception Alpha Chapter has been a leader. The founding members were initially invited to join a medical fraternity, but they felt that they should have their own dental professional organization.  Since that fateful day in November 1882, Alpha Chapter has set a precedence for being a leader in dentistry and dental leadership.

Alpha Chapter members are active in all aspects of dental school. Members are often at the top of their classes and are leaders of various student groups and organizations.  Alpha Chapter has consistently placed its graduates in leading specialty and advanced education programs. Alpha Chapter alumni can be found everywhere actively engaged in dental practice, dental research, dental education and in leadership roles in the dental profession.

Alpha Chapter also leads the way in philanthropy and educational advancement. Alpha Chapter is involved in many philanthropical endeavours. The chapter has been involved in schoolwide food drives, blood drives, cell phone drives, and Christmas gift drives. Every year its members prepare dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House near The University of Michigan Mott Chilrdren’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Your top priority in dental school is learning. And Delta Sigma Delta is all about advancing the education of its members. Upper class D3 and D4 students can routinely be found helping D1s and D2s in the preclinic with everything from PFM crown preperations to diagnostic wax ups. Upperclassmen have also put together study guides to help underclassmen prepare for examinations, both written and practical. We also sponsor “mock” dental anatomy quizzes for our D1s. If you are looking to advance your academics, look no further than Delta Sigma Delta.

DSD chapters throughout the country are divided into regions. Alpha Chapter belongs to the Mideast Region along with Case University (Cleveland,OH), SUNY Buffalo (NY), Ohio State (Columbus, OH), Pittsburgh, and The University of Detroit Mercy. Every year Alpha Chapter travels to one of these schools for our Annual Regional Meeting (ARM). The ARM gives dental students a chance to meet students from other schools and tour their facilities and discuss common issues and concerns. From these ARMS, proposals are put forth to the national chapter for consideration and action.

Brotherhood and friendship are important aspects of any fraternal organization and Alpha Chapter is no different. By becoming a Delt you will find yourself in an International Network of like minded colleagues and friends. Being a Delt means having a world wide family who wants nothing more than for you to be successful as a dental student and ulitimately as a dentist. Often Delts are seen together at the house studying for an IMS exam or waxing up molars in the in house dental laboratory. But Delts do more than just study and work together. Delta Sigma Delta sponsors group activities like a ski trip to Ellicotville, NY, Faculty Wine and Cheese mixer,  D1 Fall Welcome BBQ, Senior Send-off and our unforgetable perennial Halloween parties.

Are you looking to make the most of your dental education? Do you want to meet other dental students and alumni? Are you intersted in meeting new people? Are you interested in helping others? Do you want to be part of a great tradition that spans decades? Then maybe you too can become a Delt.
We encourage you to check us out.
